In 1880 Edward Lyon discovered 40 acres of sandstone on his newly purchased ranch north of the town that would eventually bear his name. This sandstone was laid down during the Permian geologic period as sand dunes.Teh resulting quartzitic sandstone is extremely hard with a pink to reddish color and excellent weahter resistance.The natural bedding resulting from its formation makes it easy to splitting creates a subtle yec rich texture that is both visually interesing and durable.
In 1958 the buster family purchased a cattle ranch north of Lyins that included active stone quarries.In 1999 Bernard and Brenda Buster took over the operation of these quarries.Prior to that they owned aresidential construction company.Having been consumers of stone products they know the importance of promises kept,on time delivery and quality control.We strive to maintain the historic traditions of Lyons sandstone while developing innovative new ways to quwrry and use this beautiful natural resource.
