Originally established by Mr F.E. Marshall, in Southowram, near Halifax in 1924 to quarry and merchant stone, The Pickard Group is now owned by his two sons, Frank and Ernest Marshall.
The Pickard Group own five different quarries, three in Bradford, one in Brighouse and one in Halifax.
The quarries produce different types of products from crushed stone for general fill requirements, block stone for sawing in our large saw shed through to stone such as Riven flags, rockery and crazy paving for general landscape work.
The Pickard Group also carries supplies of second hand stone products.
So in short, from humble beginnings, The Pickard Group has evolved into one of the leading players in the York Stone industry.
With their numerous quarries, The Pickard Group is in posession of supplies of York Stone for the forseeable future.
One of their quarries, Bolton Woods, is a massive 60 acres and its stone is considered to be one of the finest and most durable in the UK. Bolton Woods itself has been worked for over 150 years and this beautiful fine grained sandstone has been used in quality projects ever since.
The block from this quarry is cut by primary saws into slabs which are then cirular sawn to produce paving, kerbs, heads, cills etc. The sawn stone may then be worked further to produce virtually any shape or finish required.
Although The Pickard Group have invested heavily in this processing expertise, they still pride themselves on the traditional skills of their masons and dressers.
Some of the long list of services available from our masoning department are the bull-nosed steps, hand fettled Riven flags, curved Ashlar, moulding, carving and lettering.
