The Pochin business was founded on Granby Street in Leicester in 1861 by Robert Pochin, as an ironmonger and manufacturer of fireplaces, supplying people living in the expanding and industrial town of Leicester and the rural villages of Leicestershire. Six generations of the Pochin family have managed the business over the past 140 years, and each has taken up the responsibility for building on the company''s reputation for providing an excellent and growing range of products, backed by first class service. David Pochin became Managing Director in 1990, and he and his management team and staff ensure that the company continues to meet the changing needs of existing and new customers. The company''s famous showroom on St Georges Way, the largest in Leicester, was joined by new showrooms in Loughborough in January 1999, and in Oakham in Rutland in November 1999. The commercial catering division was first established in 1970 and relocated to larger premises, including a cash & carry warehouse and a kitchen design office, on Wenlock Way in Thurmaston in 1999.
