The Philippine government says the death toll from flooding caused by monsoon rains and Typhoon Haikui has risen to 85.
As Manila begins to clear up after the week-long heavy rains, its nearby regions are still troubled by the rising flood water. In town centers, flood water has risen above the ankle. And in villages, people are wading in chest-deep and neck-deep waters and many are perched on their rooftops with nowhere else to go.
Some have built make-shift tents on higher ground, while others, have completely lost their homes. The flood has also dramatically pushed up food prices in Manila, the capital.
Many people have to seek temporary shelter provided by the local government, and are surviving on food that is being rationed.
