We are happy to ship our landscaping stone anywhere in North America and have transport methods and shippers in place.  Large scale orders are not a problem.  We can also arrange special transport and placement of very large “Centerpiece Boulders” and etched stone signs.  Please contact us for individual quotes and more information.  Local customers may pick up their stone in person or schedule delivery.

The Butala offices and quarries are located near Salida, Colorado in the upper Arkansas River valley of  central Colorado.  We have been in business in the same location since 1970. Frank Butala started Butala Construction in 1948 and quickly built it into a company well known for its quality work and integrity. 

Our wide range of residential and commerical construction projects include custom homes, restaurants, banks, hotels, and contracts at several major ski resorts, including ski lifts.  We understand that the first step to quality construction is quality raw material. This prompted Frank Butala to purchase our gravel pit to provide us with a high quality source of hard and clean sand, gravel and rock. Our business now concentrates on the production of quality construction materials and landscape rock.

We have an estimated 200 years of production in our current deposits spreading over more than 160 acres.  This means that you can be assured of the availability of a consistant product should you choose to expand your landscaping in the future.  The Arkansas river borders our properties and is still engaged in polishing natural granite cobbles.  After completing your purchase of landscaping stone, we suggest an inspection of the polishing process while fly-fishing, kayaking or rafting on the river!

As part of our commitment to the environment and our local community, we use great care in harvesting stone from this deposit.  We use berms and planted trees to shield active workings from passersby and to help maintain as low a profile as possible.  Strategically located settling ponds collect fines from the sand washing process and trap them before they could reach the river.  The E.P.A. is helping us to monitor and protect the natural environment around us.

We also are careful to preserve the historic structures on a small, unused portion of our property.  These include the Salida Smelter Smokestack, an impressive 365 foot tall brick stack now managed by the Salida Historical Society, and buildings from the Coppers company and the Beazer company.  We encourage you to visit nearby downtown Salida, the largest historic district in Colorado and a charming collection of Victorian homes and businesses.
