In the second half of 1800 Vittorio Grassi inherited since very young a quarry of Nanto stone that his father left him after dying prematurely –Vittorio at that time was about 10 years old-.
The quarry head initiated him into the world of business and he took care of him by teaching him how to run the business; Vittorio is compelled to take care and manage the family company since adolescent.
The years go by and the economic situation of the country, though between ups and downs, offers some job opportunities; opportunities that Vittorio, towards the end of 1800, beginning of 1900, decides to get by starting to work the stone that his forefathers used to extract since the remote past and by building the new laboratory in Nanto (from researches carried out in these latest years, it was found out that Grassi family used to quarry stone already in the XVII° century).
