![]() In the second half of 1800 Vittorio Grassi inherited since very young a quarry of Nanto stone that his father left him after dying prematurely –Vittorio at that time was about 10 years old-.
The quarry head initiated him into the world of business and he took care of him by teaching him how to run the business; Vittorio is compelled to take care and manage the family company since adolescent.
The years go by and the economic situation of the country, though between ups and downs, offers some job opportunities; opportunities that Vittorio, towards the end of 1800, beginning of 1900, decides to get by starting to work the stone that his forefathers used to extract since the remote past and by building the new laboratory in Nanto (from researches carried out in these latest years, it was found out that Grassi family used to quarry stone already in the XVII° century).
Further to an illness that forced him to bed, in 1950s Vittorio Grassi leaves the leadership of the small company to the new generation that in a few years, thanks to the precious opportunities offered by the fully developing market–the second world war was ended since few years and the bombed cities were about to be rebuilt- and to the more and more efficient and less expensive means of transport, it expands the company activity and the markets by beginning to cross the domestic and international borders thus arriving to Japan and the United States in the 1980s.
Thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit, combined with the hard work and with the constancy of four generations, the family activity has been specially appreciated for its professionalism and experience all over the world markets, and still today, further to the company reorganizations, they allowed the simple company established by Vittorio Grassi to become a joint stock company-Grassi 1880 S.p.A.- in this last year.
