Cevisama’12 has consolidated its standing as the Spanish fair that has more foreign visitors than any other. It reports that 12,880 international buyers from 140 countries participated, accounting for 18% of all participants in quantitative terms; that’s two percentage points more than last year, a 3.13% increase

Mission accomplished. Cevisama, the fair that showcases ceramics, natural stone, bathroom fixtures, frits, glazes and machinery for ceramics, has done itself proud in terms of the quality and quantity of professionals from beyond Spain’s borders who attended the event.

International buyers were up from 12,489 to 12,880. This 3.13% increase was one of the things that made this year’s show, the thirtieth, the most international ever.

With its awareness that businesses need to sally forth and conquer new markets abroad, Cevisama has succeeded at bringing in greater numbers of foreign visitors, but only those who passed the exclusive test of quality. The fair’s organizers analyzed the quality of a total of 4,000 buyers from target markets and then selected a total of 2,500 importers worldwide. Each of these high-quality companies reported an average turnover of more than a million euros. Representatives from these 2,500 firms were at the event, which meant that, thanks to these measures, Cevisama 2012 played host to international buyers representing a total turnover of upwards of 2,500 million euros.

“Given the current situation”, says Cevisama President Armando Ibáñez, “participation numbers like these are great news. It’s an achievement, and it can be chalked up to the efforts of all the sectors involved in Cevisama”. Cevisama’s president sees the show as an event that gives companies strategic value and a strong future, a pacesetter in terms of new developments, innovation and design and an excellent business platform. As a result, “We’re going to keep working to uphold its member sectors internationally and to uphold the superior quality of business at Cevisama”.

In overall terms, this year the five-day event racked up 71,540 visitors, of whom 12,800 were foreign buyers.

Traditional Business Partners and Emerging Markets
Eurozone countries, which accounted for 56.75% of all visits, still held top place. Italy, France, the UK, Germany, Portugal and Belgium were, in order, the countries best represented at the show. Russia and former Soviet republics like Ukraine are steadily rising.

Among the Arab countries, the best turn-up figures came from Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Lebanon. The countries that doubled their number of buyers were the northern African countries of Morocco, Algeria and Libya. These markets look on Cevisama as the trade show that offers the best product for their tastes and needs. Many exhibitors have made Cevisama their portal to these markets. Altogether the show welcomed 1,824 high-potential Arab buyers, 14% more than the year before, when Cevisama posted record results for that particular niche.

There was also a strong contingent of buyers from Asia. India, which rose by 29%, and China, which increased by 18%, were especially impressive.

Definitive visitor profile figures reveal 2% growth in architects, interior designers and industrial designers; these setters of trends and definers of technical demands accounted for 25% of all visitors. One of the strategic lines the event pursued was to reach more-knowledgeable publics like these, who can influence purchasing decisions. The remaining 75% of visitors were broken down into 43% distributors, 20% manufacturers and 12% builders.

A Show Tailor Made for Its Sectors
Cevisama, which was held from 7 to 10 February at Feria Valencia, has consolidated its position as the best business platform. A total of 780 firms from around the globe participated, for whom innovation, technology and design are hallmarks and quality is the product. No other trade fair is closer to the pulse of the ceramic-making industry, and Cevisama has the added advantage of including complementary sectors (frits and glazes, machinery, bathroom fixtures and natural stone).

All the leading firms were there, because they feel the effort Cevisama puts into inviting foreign buyers makes it the right platform to help them win over international markets.

“International” is one of Cevisama’s bywords. In addition to the wide range of representatives from Spanish industry (forming a total of 545 firms), 30% of exhibitors (235 firms in all) were from abroad. Having drawn a larger number of visiting firms to Cevisama this year helps mould a better visitor profile, the event’s main strategic objective.

Next Year
Organizers are already working on next year’s show. Fresh challenges and new needs for 2013 are their priority, with the underlying themes of benefiting exhibitors, encouraging innovation and above all boosting exhibitor exports. Cevisama 2013 will be held from 5 to 8 February.
