Quartzite is a quartz-rich sandstone that has been metamorphosed. How quartz is formed depends on two of the most prevalent materials in the earth's crust, silicon and oxygen. Known as silicon dioxide or Si02, quart is one of the hardest of minerals registering at around a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Our fastest growing industry in the past two decades was able to extract and develop this unique stone formation into very trendy and fashionable products today. When polished, this hard and solid stone has very high gloss marble-like appearance and at the same time it is exceeding some physical criteria’s of most dense granites.
