In 2013, Yunfu stone industry achieved total value of 11.5 billion Yuan, covering 18.6% of gross industrial output value of Yunfu City. There are about 4000 stone enterprises and 200 thousand people engaged in stone industry. Both production ability and sales volume are top-ranked nationwide.

Although the total production and sales volume were increasing, the increasing data were from above-scale enterprises. Many company owners said that the business is harder and harder to do and the market is declining. Most of them don’t expect earning much profit. And some small factories can’t continue the business; they are looking for renting and transferring under fierce competition.

Yunfu stone industry needs to solve three main problems if want to get more market shares under the fierce competition.

1. Hard to get hold of quarry resources

Stone industry is resource utilization industry. The one who get hold of quarry resources can take initiative in the market. It is known that Yunfu doesn’t have an advantage of quarry resource. Through importing worldwide blocks, it sells after finishing processing. For weak individual competition ability of local stone enterprises, and unwilling to develop by collaborative way, the ability of Yunfu stone enterprises to get hold of quarries is limited, which is a key problem of its development. If Yunfu stone industry wants to develop, it is important to integrate quarry resources.

2. Not concentrated on processing

Stone processing is Yunfu stone industry’s strength. But its professionalization level isn’t high enough on stone processing. It is common in Yunfu that a small-scale stone factory is not only fabricating slabs, but also stone lines, onyx accessories, which makes it can’t do perfect work on single aspect. Yunfu stone enterprises should change their extensive production mode in past to professionalization, characteristic, and intensification. Meanwhile, they also need to pay more attention to improving equipments level, environment-friendly level and multipurpose utilization of quarry resources.

3. Development ability is not enough

For Yunfu stone market, the awareness of developing nonlocal sales is not strong. The main mode is waiting for customers’ visiting. And fewer companies have ability and are willing to nonlocal sales. There is a few companies can accept remolding projects. At present, the large and high-end projects and demands are competitively decreased, thus stone enterprises met different situations. Large stone enterprises are cooperated with domestic known real estate brands. This cooperation makes their performance improvement in stability. Meanwhile, medium-small enterprises are in a tight squeeze. Decreased orders force them have to downsize the production.

In a word, the transformation and upgrading of Yunfu stone industry should integrate, strengthen division and cooperation, and go the way of collaborative development.
